Easiest Photo Transfer Method EVER!

I love a good Pinterest fail round up, I have to be honest, but I don’t so much love when they happen to me, especially over and over. That is the case with the photo transfer to wood tutorial that I have always seen all over Pinterest. None of them have ever work for me and I even purchased a medium that was design to transfer photos to wood! So when my mom told me about this method one of her clients had mentioned to her, I had to try it, mostly because it sounded too good to be true and I had all the materials on hand. Let me tell you all, it WORKED and worked so well! Check it out!

The back story to this picture is super special, not to mention I just love the shot in general, here is the original:

Totally worth of a transfer and I love these wood plaques. I can get them through Amazon Prime Now so when I needed to get to the minimum of $20 this last weekend, I popped one in my cart and it arrived at my door in no time.  At the time I had no idea that it would participate in a miracle that is this photo transfer process. Here is the very short list of what you need:

  • Wax paper cut to 8.5×11 inches
  • An image (I edit in PicMonkey and then just pulled it into a Word document)
  • Card (credit, debit, membership, just a plastic rectangle from your wallet)
  • Inkjet printer (I have an HP Deskjet 1510)

That’s it! All I did was bring my edited picture into a Word document and printed it out onto the wax paper. I will be honest, I babysat, guided, said a prayer and waited anxiously to make sure it came out the other side and didn’t result in a printer jam and yet another failed craft project. Luckily it came out just fine and I hope it does for you to, I am sure it will work great for some and may not for others. I apologize for that now.

After it is printed, place it ink side down onto your wood. DO NOT MOVE IT! Once it is there, that is where it will stay or you will get smudges. Place it and then start rubbing, hard enough to transfer ink, but not so hard you rip the wax paper. You can lift it a bit to make sure it is working and if not just rub a bit harder.

Once it is done, pull it off and just take a step back and be amazed at your awesomeness. Take a picture for Instagram even, you will be that impressed with yourself. You could even tag me in it if you wanted, that would be cool, I’m @delicatelyconstructed.

Let me know how it goes in the comments below! I am sure this would work with color images as well and can’t wait to try that next. Also, this is going to be one of my favorite gifts to hand out this holiday season, I can’t wait!

Love this! No need for spray?

It never hurts (I would totally spray if it was a gift) but the wood absorbs the ink immediately so it won’t smear without it. I got another piece to try the color ink version this week!
