Are you ready for back to school? I know, me neither, I feel like there is so much left to organize before the start of the school year but I was able to check one thing off of the list this last weekend! I am sure that I speak for everyone when I share how hectic and crazy weeknights and mornings can be, especially when mommy is responsible for multiple lunches! Today I am sharing how I save time and money putting together lunches for the whole family!
Now before you have anything to organize you need to pick up the food! Here is my first secret, during back to school time of year you will always see GREAT sales on lunch staples at your favorite grocery stores so I always make it a point to get my self to Vons multiple times during every one of their big sales to stock up on my kids favorite lunch items. This is stuff we are going to go through anyways and it makes the most sense to pick them up when they are great prices to get me through the first few weeks of the year.
Another tip, I shoped at the Vons Huge Anniversary sale that starts TODAY and runs through August 11th, but you can also check out the great deals at Albertons, Safeway, Jewel, Osco and Amigos too! This sale involves huge savings on great lunch items like Rold Gold Pretzels, Doritos and Gatorade 20oz 8 packs all for $2.99 each when you buy 3! You know I had to stock up and I will most certainly go back for more a couple times throughout the sale!
Once I got them home, I spent about 10 minutes portioning out all the bags into small food storage bags so that they are ready to grab when I am making lunches. I made Avery sized bags (she is my incoming Kindergartener) with the snack sized bags and I made Scott sized bags (he is the awesome 25 year old who happens to have Autism that lives with us) using sandwich bags.
Before I knew it I had at least two weeks worth if not three of sides for lunches all ready to go! That paired with the Gatorade that Scott loves to take in his lunch and I was set!
I grabbed some fun baskets that are also on sale everywhere at this time of year and put each type of pretzel and chip in it’s own basket.
You know I couldn’t stop there when I could add fun label and share it with you all, right?! I made these fun lunch specific pantry labels and I am sharing the free printable with you all right here —> Lunch Essentials Pantry Labels
All I did was cut them out and used some craft adhesive to attach them to the baskets. Easy and beautiful!
It might just be a mom thing to truly enjoy looking into your pantry and seeing everything organized but I love it- but what I love more is sleeping in an extra 10 minutes because of the time and money I have saved putting this all together!
How do you save money at the beginning of the school year?
