Alright y’all, when it comes to breakfast, I don’t do so well, the only thing that really works for me is a smoothie. I can put them together quick, hide some veggies and through it in the expected mason jar (I am a blogger after all) and off I go. They are also a great snack or dessert option and the possibilities are endless! My newest creation is a take on a 50/50 bar- YUM! Check it out:
I feel like we go way back here, and I shouldn’t lie to you. The inspiration for this smoothie may have been a cocktail I had in Cancun like 10 years ago. It was called a Miami Vice and it was a pina colada and daquri layered in a glass and it tasted like a 50/50 bar when you drank it. But I am a mom living in a suburb in San Diego, I don’t have cocktails for breakfast (or very often at all anymore) but I loved the flavor so I made a healthier, more appropriate morning version.
Here is what I used:
- Carnation Breakfast Essentials Powder Drink Mix in Classic French Vanilla
- 1 cup milk
- 1 yogurt cup (like the single serving variety)
- 2 cups frozen fruit (whatever you want, I did one cup pineapple and one cup of strawberries)
- Juice or water
- Ice (I used about a cup, but depends on how thick you like your smoothies)
For this one, you have to make two separate smoothies, or at least that is how I made mine, you could totally just throw everything in the blender and have a strawberry smoothie but I was trying to recreate the beach side cocktail. I started with the creamy smoothie and threw my yogurt cup (I threw mine in the freezer), one cup milk, one cup ice and packet of Classic French Vanilla Carnation Breakfast Essentials Powder in the blender. I am seriously in love with this stuff for smoothies now because it comes in great flavors like Classic Chocolate Malt and Strawberry Sensation and is full of everything you need to start your day off right like 21 vitamins and minerals, calcium and 13 grams of protein! Next, I made the fruit smoothies which was just with the frozen fruit and either juice or water. Most of the time I just use water when I make smoothies because there is so much flavor in the fruit.
Once they are both made, I put the fruit smoothie in the bottom of my mason jar,
And layered the vanilla smoothie on top- looks so good!
All you need is a paper straw (which they didn’t have in Cancun, just sayin’) and you are ready to enjoy! These were a hit in my house and this recipe made enough for 3 smoothies; 2 adult and 1 child. Fabulous!
These were perfect for today because this week, San Diego is getting hit with 100 degree temps- that just is not right for May! Mix that with the entire county being on fire (6-8 wild fires throughout the day and all around the county) and we have been hiding indoors all day. For that reason I am so thankful for Walmart because I was able to make one stop and grab all the ingredients for my smoothie as well as a bunch of beads and paint to keep us entertained while hanging out inside. But being stuck inside can make you take kind of funny selfies with your grocery items 😉
