I love decorating a mantle, but I also love putting together a design slowly and that can be kept around for a few weeks or even a month or more. Since we are finally getting into spring, which here in San Diego, I am really hoping that means we will get some rain and maybe cooler weather, I thought I would brighten up the mantle with some fun spring colors. Plus, I also got to add some flair with a new stencil from Mod Podge Rocks!
You guys all know Amy right from the Mod Podge Rocks! Blog?! Well this new line of stencils is awesome and so easy to use! It is made to work well with both Mod Podge and glitter, which may be two of my favorite things. I gathered some blocks and wood letters, and I was all set to start!
First, I had spray painted me letters the aqua color and let them dry. Then, to use the stencil, all I had to was position it on the letter, it has some re-positionable adhesive that keeps it where you want it while applying the Mod Podge. I used the extremely convenient splouncer that was sent with the stencil to apply the Mod Podge and then removed the stencil immediately while it was still wet.
Then I sprinkled glitter all over the letter (probably my favorite party of ay project) and tapped off the excess. There will still be a lot of glitter on the letter but we will get to that after it has fully dried.
I cleaned the stencil and the splouncer after I used them and then let them dry. When the letters were dry, I again used my splouncer but this time to brush off the extra glitter, you can definitely see the difference! A much cleaner look!
After this, all I had to do was glue them to my cut up, yellow spray painted, 2x4s! I love a quick and easy project and the best part of this, is that I was able to re use some blocks from a previous set! Even better!
This is just the start of my Spring themed mantle and I can’t wait to see what gets added next!
