Craft Room Tour

This post has been a long time coming. I kept saying to myself “I will post this when the room is done.” But, this is a craft room, I don’t know if it is ever really done. Plus, to keep it real, I really should have been thinking “I should post this while it is clean since I am between projects.” That is much more accurate. Especially with beginning the journey that is planning for Avery’s 4th birthday, this may not look like this for long!

If you have been reading for a while, you probably remember that this is not the first time I have shared a craft room tour on my blog. Before, I had been using my extra bedroom as a craft space, but it is a small room and, well, I am really hoping that 2014 is the year I get a baby put in that room! But anyways, with the way that our house is set up, we have two living rooms. We spend much more time in the bigger one and the smaller one really just stored some furniture that we couldn’t let go of and a small tv that Scott liked. It was really just a waste of space. I had always thought of moving the craft space out there once we needed the bedroom but then I thought, why wait? The hubs totally challenged me, said I wouldn’t be able to make, and maintain, a presentable craft space.

But I did. Or at least I have so far. It is actually better that it is so out in the open because it forces me to keep it clean, when you can close the door, that is when the tornadoes come!

Let’s take a walk.

First, I love this bench I made from a coffee table that was originally in this living room. Now, we have lived in this house for 3 1/2 years, but this table had a glass top that was broken the day we moved in… 3 1/2 years ago. I couldn’t get rid of it, being the good blogger that I am I swore I would be able to do something with it- and I did. I will have a full tutorial in another post- I could never fit all the tutorials in one post so I will make it a series for the next few Mondays.

Then, next to that is Avery’s easel. This serves two purposes, first it gives her a space to be creative in my creative space and second, it covers up the obnoxious wall AC unit that is behind it. Really it is a win/win situation. I keep an ice bucket full of construction paper underneath and then I also have a butcher paper roll. Many times, when I use the butcher paper for my own craft, once it is dried, I just move it over to her easel and let her paint on the other side. She doesn’t care and it is a great way to get full usage out of the paper.

Then, there is the amazing wall of storage and inspiration. The two side shelves came from the previous craft room and the two dressers in the middle are Ikea, what I like to call “apartment specials”, meaning they are the most affordable version, coming in around $35 each. They come in plain wood and then I painted them white. I still need to add the handles in all honesty, I am just trying to think of a fun way to give them a little flair. In the open wall space between the two taller shelves and above the dressers I have a full on inspiration and planning wall, I love this thing! I just picked up 12 clip boards from the dollar store and nailed them wall and I can hold anything from my planning printables (which I will share Friday) to magazine pages to receipts for my business to my T25 schedule to keep me accountable. It is all there, right at eye level.

Then there is all the great open shelving storage! Since you can see it, I want it to be cute and have tried to take all that into consideration, knowing full well only crafty people will see the beauty in it all!

Last, probably the best part, this giant workspace!! Look at this table! I built this from selves and a piece of melamine. Again, tutorial to follow, but it is counter height and a huge open space to work. I love it and could never go back!

I hope you enjoyed the tour and I can’t wait to share more with you!
