This is not the way this table came to us. We are coming into the time of our life where we want our furniture to match, but we still love a freebie! There is a lot of wood grain of varying colors in the house and we are trying to reduce the clash piece by piece so we knew that when we got this table, it had to be redone before it even entered the house.
Here is how the table started, it isn’t ugly, it is just another shade of wood in a house where we are trying to streamline the furniture. Plus it is too close the the shade of the floor, just too much. See the chair in the back? There are four of those mixed with the wood trim.
Here is why we liked the idea of a new dinning room table in the first place, the old one was a pain to clean, this is mostly tile, super easy to clean. Also this one is bigger and while we are a family of four, we often have other people over and would cram six at the table and it would get tight. This will and does seat six naturally. So while it isn’t the most ornate, antique, modern piece of furniture, it is the perfect family table.
We taped of the tile first and painted the trim black. I screwed up and got oil based paint, just a small little sample can. It worked great in the end and I like the finished product, it was just kind of a pain to work with and I threw away the brush and roller and what not instead of trying to wash them.
Now, in hindsight, I would say you should do the re-grouting before the paint because when I took off the painters tape, it was too soon after painting and it took off a bunch of paint and I basically had to repaint the edge. We just gouged out all the grout and then hubbs mixed up some grout we had on hand, mixed in some black acrylic paint and then grouted the table for me.
After touch ups and spray painting all the chairs white, it is done!!
I really like the way it turned out and it is so much easier to keep clean, like a million times easier.
I will be sharing how I made the centerpieces tomorrow!!!
